I'll probably be lurking a lot, but should introduce myself. My name is Jim, I work the parts counter for one of the auto parts stores (I'll leave which one out of it, so as to avoid any lectures from my management).

My first truck was a '63 C10; I was the youngest on the farm and it was the oldest truck. And had no engine (the story of my life, alas). I located a '64 parked along a nearby fenceline--it had been totaled but the engine was intact. A "quick" trip on the tractor, $20 to the owner, and a few hours work, and I had a functioning truck.

My next was an older International 1/2 ton that had the towing capacity (and fuel appetite) of a Sherman tank. I replaced that with a '66 that was my DD for a few years til SWMBO "persuaded" me to replace it with something more modern. Shortly after, I un-wifed and have been seeking the ideal truck ever since.

But nearly 20 years--and 8 trucks--later, I'm still looking. I figure to go back to my roots and get an older Chevy, then build it up the way I want it.

We'll see what happens. Looking forward to delving into past posts for ideas and information before I start buying and building. I've never actually had a plan when I built a truck, but I'd like to try it someday.

Hi Jim, welcome. So, are you looking for an early 60s truck? We have a forum dedicated to 60-66 trucks, check it out. Also, (if you like lurking so much) check out the gallery. There are lots of different ways to go in putting these back together. Some are bone stock while others are quite modified, it's all up to you as the owner. We're here to help, not tell you how you should do it. Good luck.

Thanks for the welcome!

Looking back, my '66 C10 pickup was a favorite. As long as I stayed off the interstate, it did everything I thought I needed to do with it. I've thought a lot over the years of the things I would have liked to change/improve to make it a better DD for me, and am almost thinking a Suburban from the same vintage might work better for me. Either way it would be something I could work on (which is a good thing, because it would be something I would have to do the work on!).

Check the trucks for sale forum. Something just might strike your fancy. Welcome.

Look in the Gallery, too for some of the stories about the trucks. Since there are so many listed, you can jump to the most recent ones by going to the recent year additions - 2016, 2015 and 2014.

The DITY Gallery forum is also a good place to see what others' projects look like.
