O.K....I am stupid, I have a 54 235 I bought as a replacement. It is sitting in a homemade cradle and I want to turn it over to check compression and eventually get it started. Question is, I don't know how to "hot wire" it to check compression and start. please help an old fool and explain the steps. Thanks

For just doing that, no need for bypass wiring, or other extraneous niceties, so...

Wire from the distributor goes to the minus side of the coil, a hot positive wire goes to the plus side of the coil. Don't leave the coil plus wire on the coil for long. No need to connect these wires to check compression, just to start.
