on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 144 Member | | Member Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 144 | Can anyone there in the States offer advice as to who sells quality Upper and Lower Grilles? Seemingly difficult to find chromed ones due to poor quality chrome work as per comments from vendors. If anyone has info on the above for a good used one let me know. What does it cost there in the good ol u.s.a. to have a grille chromed? recommendations of a company that does could be a big help. Thanks Ol Classic Finn | | | | | Joined: Mar 2000 Posts: 784 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2000 Posts: 784 | Classic Finn: I had mine done at a local chrome shop. It cost me around $550 to get it straightened and chromed. They did a great job. This was an old time chrome shop, they have been around a long time. The first two places I talked to wouldn't do the job I wanted. Apparently they didn't have anyone skilled enough to get out the dents and straighten it up. Anyway your best bet is to try and find a used one. The after market repros are JUNK. A friend of mine found one on Ebay for $200, which was a good deal. You can expect to pay 75 to 100 bucks for the upper piece and 100 to 200 for the lower if they are in good condition. Check out the swap meet I've seen them there. You might post an ad in the wanted section also. There are some good used ones still around, It will just take some looking. I had Sherm's Plating ( http://www.shermsplating.com) do the work. Real happy with the customer service and the workmanship. Took about a month to do. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 144 Member | | Member Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 144 | Is The Logo for Chevrolet on the bottom redone or did you order that seperately?

It is a 'repro' and certainly not of the original quality. The original was going to cost the same as that repro to have rechromed and the guy wasn't sure it would turn out well anyway. Regardless, it looks pretty good from a distance! I'd still want the original if it is not rusted or pitted. (I'm not sophisticated enough on this computer to get just one or two pictures to show up from that website!) Cheers, George P.S. nice looking truck 'steppenwood'. http://www.geocities.com/jarge46/46_Chev.html | | | | | Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 629 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 629 | Keep an eye on e-bay for grills. I see them out there quite a bit. Both original and reproductions. Sombody has been selling non-chrome repros for around $200 lately. Someone else has a chromed repro out there now that is over $300 and climbing. I just picked up an original grill that appears from the pictures to be in great shape. I can't wait to get it. I have now bought four grills and keep finding ones that are just a bit better than the last. If this one is better than what I have, I will be selling my old one. I now have two top portions and one lower portion that was re-chromed and the full one I just snapped up with "buy it now". Good luck with your search. grill I got off of e-bay
