I switched to an alternator on my 1958 261, went with Fenton duals, and a water pump adapter plate to center the fan on the radiator. I'm trying different belts and brackets, and just wonder if someone can tell me how close is too close for the alternator to be to the exhaust manifold? Is there a recommended distance for consideration of the heat? What specific belt or bracket did you use?

You want to get it out a ways from the engine mostly to get more belt contact. Alts. on those 6 cyl. engines don't get a lot of belt contact to prevent slipping, especially high out put alt. That will put it far away enough from the ex. manifold to prevent any heat problems.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.
