For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 36 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 36 | I purchased a very expensive under bed tank and lost 200$ in the deal after paying a restocking fee because it was for a 1/2 t and way to wide. It was 8 inches wider than the 3/4 frame and there was nothing I could do about it. I'm 6 years into a re store, slowly but surely. I've got the chassis done and updated. Cab painted, front clip painted, engine, transmission are new and in. Now I'm working on hooking up accessories to the engine to make it run. So I need fuel. I want to use an u dear bed type of tank in behind the rear axle any help would be great. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 36 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 36 | Forgot the stats, it's a 1947 1st 3600 long bed. 292,700R4. 88 susbarban rear end, disc brake conversion up front. Gramps old work truck, I used it as a jungle gym as a kid. Now it's my challenge. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 3,596 | You will need a custom tank for the location described, the factory tanks on 47-48 were inside the passenger frame rail. Take the measurements for your frame and order from Jegs or Speedway Motors they will have the tank you need. 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton frames are different, measure it to your location, there are many custom options for tanks. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 256 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 256 | N8dawg: not sure if this would work for you on your 47 1st 3800 long bed but on my 48 I used 2 Pontiac Fiero tanks parallel to the driveshaft (I wanted to reserve the space behind the rear axle for my spare). The Fiero tanks are long and skinny, 10 gallons each. Not sure how readily available Fiero tanks still are? The tanks pics are in my December Gallery story below. 1948 Chevy PU | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,004 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 1,004 | Another option to consider is a tank from Chev of the 40's. Part #605239 and 605239H. Both are advertised as under the bed units. The first is top fill and the "H" is side fill. I am considering it for my 41 3/4 ton; frame width of 36". I was looking for a bolt on easy way out but the 3/4 ton keeps me fabing up things. It should be a day project, takes 3 weeks! Every turn is a new adventure. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 36 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2009 Posts: 36 | Tanks inc looks like the spot for me, I'll call them tomorrow with questions. Thanks again. I'm going to end up using an electric fuel pump so these guys have it all together. | | |
