Thanks, Mike B. I was not aware the inner fenders were the same, that is good to know! Mine are pretty bad but, I don't think I am using the 58 nose. My daughter wants me to cut the front 12" or so off of it and hang it on her wall as art!

Thats a good looking truck. I hauled grain out of the midwest when these field trucks caught corn at the turnrow and hauled it to the elevator and spent the rest of the year in a shed. Now semis chase the combine and the bobtails are obsolete. Many of them got moved out of the barn about 30 years ago when they became obsolete. Looks like yours was allowed to stay in the shed. Just about all of them were stretched to accept a longer box. They wee grossly overloaded as to manufacturer's rating, but it didn't hurt them because they didn't go very far and they didn't go very fast.

I found a bunch of weight slips in my 58, mfg tag says GVW is 16,000, owner added plate on the side of the bed says 20,000 gross, and the weight slips said 22-24,000 pounds! 24K is an additional 50% over mfg rated weight!

That's exactly what the owner told me happened with theirs. They went to semis and left this one sit.

What about the dash pieces, controls. Are they easy to come by?

What controls are you asking about?

All of the factory stuff (gauges, light & key switchs, choke & throttle cables etc.) are the same as the pickup's.

PTO push/pull cables or levers are all custom (non-factory).

It looks like I'm missing some heater controls. Looks like maybe three sliders. I need to take a picture. To be honest I'm not sure what's missing, just some empty holes and slots.

Post some pictures and we can help...

If your heater had slide controls you have the Deluxe Heater and it's the same one used on all 55-59 TF trucks, parts are available...

It was a little rougher than what the two picture shown, but still I think I got a fair deal. Didn't realize I have two different year fenders and seems to be missing some of the dash pieces. The hoist is probably worth what I paid for the truck, so I'm happy.

Photo bucket is down today, but I checked and it seems I have the deluxe dash. The knob with a T on it just pulls right out, not connected, so need to research that. I'll post pictures as soon as possible.

T = Throttle. There was a cable going to the throttle so you could bump the throttle up over an idle if you were running the PTO or something.

Oh, well they have it disconnected. pulls right out the dash. I'm putting the same on my Landcruiser, for the front winch. Good idea.

The Deluxe dash will have chrome knobs. The Standard dash will have black knobs. Other than that both dashes are the same and both dashes could have the Deluxe Heater controls...

Daddy, you're not missing much [except maybe 'function'], the empty hole is provision for a cigar lighter .... you have the deluxe heater with a couple of the control levers snapped off .... for various details of the Task Force series check my links below

That's a great help! I've got a lot to learn. It won't be until Summer before the tear down, but gives me time to at least know what I'm looking at.

Americanclassic has those heater control levers you need. I believe they also have the knobs for them.

most of their stuff is pretty good. They are one of the cheaper places online for stuff. The brake and clutch pedal pads for my 59 Suburban were a bit small but worked... that was 15 years ago, maybe they changed them, not sure.

I order stuff from them often and will be ordering more as I build my 2-ton.

I've had good luck with Classic Parts of America www.classicparts.com Contact them and get their catalog.

I've also bought from LMC www.lmctruck.com and the Truck Shop http://www.truckandcarshop.com/4759.html. Both of these vendors have catalogs as well.

Most all of the parts come from the same supplier, there's not enough demand for parts to be made by lots of different people, so shop around for the best price.

Thanks Mike for the links. Seems to be a lot more after market parts for these Chevys than what I'm used to.

About the only thing you can't get for your truck are brake drums and the big truck sheet metal. All of the other parts can be found at NAPA, your local auto parts store, your local big truck parts store or the internet vendors.

About the "Big Truck" sheet metal. Is that just the fenders or is there more. Will Cab Corners work on all 59s.

Cab parts should all be the same. It's the fenders, hoods and grilles that are different.

I believe the hood is the same, (my 58 2-ton and 59 1/2 ton Suburban are the same width and length anyway). If there is a difference, I would like to know what it is.
Fenders are wider and so is the grill, not sure about inner fenders, have not looked at those closely and not sure why they would be different (main thing on fenders is they are wider for the wider axle)

daddy, you will find most all questions answered in the 5-9 assembly manual, save it to your 'puter, study it

It's the Fenders and Grille that are different. The Hood and Inner Fenders are the same for all of the trucks.

Everything related to the Cab and Interior are shared with all of the trucks...

I am currently undertaking this project and looking to fit motor in the next couple of weeks, i will let you know and add some photos. From previous research, the fire wall requires modification to allow easy access to the no 6 valve cover for removal .
