I ordered from speedway.It is a coil over design.I don't know much about IFS ,so researched best I could ,looked at reviews,and took a chance.

Well you have a good looking cab to mount it to. Let us know how it works out.

Today I started undoing the things I had done.Removed the front axial and spring hangers.I have the engine ready to come back out.Getting prep work done for the IFS,that should be delivered on Tuesday .I hope that all works out and next week I can get the IFS installed and put things back together.

I got the 55.2's bed wood cut & profiled this morning. (With the help of a table saw & a friend) I'll try for a bolt-down fit/form test tonight on the truck; holes marked, et cetera. Pictures

I'm in the process of clearing out scrap and a couple old frames so I can bring home another big bolt and get working on my project! (making an extended cab 2-ton!)

How do you plan on extending the cab (stretch the doors, stretch behind the door, make a full on four door crew cab)? Sounds like an exciting project.

I took the engine out today,and cut a template to box the frame for the IFS.

A milestone day. Completed my new gas tank installation and, while the seat was out, also installed lap belts. Lots of great tips and explanations here helped me get it done. New big project, a new wood bed.

Well here is a long weekend update: cut out the floor board - passenger side of my 47 1-ton dually, cut out the drivers side cab corner, all work I could do before I send it to my buddy the welder. Also had 6 brand new 8R-19.5's mounted on my previously blasted and painted rims. Removed the seat sliding rails proceeding to break off both bolts on the drivers side in the rails. They were rusted beyond saving anyway. Installed my clean oil pan on the 216, ready to turn over on the engine stand to begin working topside. Oh yeah - tore down the distributor to clean up and paint the outside.

Where did you get your 19.5's? Did you get the agressive type tread or the road type? Any pics? Im looking for a set myself.

Welded brackets on my 55.2 truck bed's cross sills, quick blast cleaned, & repainted them. No pictures today- y'all know what paint drying looks like.

I got started on my IFS.I got the frame notched,box plates cut and tacked in,new IFS crossmember tacked in place. My internet is real slow tonight .I can't post any pics.

Shaper, crank up that camera so we can see what you're up to.

I should be able to get to the shop tonight to get the brand off those tires. Joe

The tires are branded "Double Coin" They are Chinese. That said they are 12 Ply and nice quality

I am waiting on the rack and pinion to get here. It was back ordered and shipped later.I will soon be ready to paint the IFS. IFS nearly done.

Installed a newly re-chromed rear bumper and installed a Edelbrock air filter I'd adapted to the Rochester on the 235 six.

Going shopping for some motor bling for the '48 today. What I have now is out of style and needs more attention than I can give it. So, new polished aluminum valve covers and a new chrome alternator along with new billet brackets. Hope to get to installing them this week.

I lined up my 55.2 truck bed angle strip bling & drilled the 3/8" holes through the wood & bolted them to the cross sills. Not exciting, but here's pictures. I hope to get holes lined up & countersunk for the bed to frame bolts & offset washers tonight.

The weather should be suitable to POR-15 & paint the wood this weekend, so now I have to take all that crap back off (after I drill/attach angle strips). It fit, so I guess the install was a success. I ain't putting it back on by myself though- moving hammers around to hold the bolts down was very tedious.

I got the IFS finished today ,but did not get it painted. Maybe tomorrow .

Yes, sir - unfortunately the POR-15 that was "delivered" yesterday got stolen off my porch...we guess(?). UPS has a 100% track record of deliveries, so I'm assuming it was stolen. I hope the thief spills it on themselves; POR-15 is like permanent bank marking dye.

I cooled off by installing the tailgate and the two side steps tonight. --PICTURES-- I had planned on painting the bed wood this weekend, but it looks like I'll be stuck with just driving the truck around in the nice weather.

Edit- high five to the Amazon prime folks; they're replacing the POR-15 order & it'll be here Monday. They didn't have to do that.

Thanks, I did get it painted today. When it dries I will assemble it again and move on to the engine.I would like to get it together next Saturday.It seems things don't go as fast as they used to and I never get done when I think I should.

I had some unexpected help stop by, so we got the 55.2's rear fenders installed.

It's starting to look like a truck again.

I didn't do a lot of work sanding like I do when doing body work.It will be covered with sheet metal some day.

Painted IFS

Uncle Brad, and others. When I first started using POR15 some years ago I couldn't find it anywhere around my hometown area.
Since that time I have found out that several "paint" stores have now started carrying it. One of the places here is called Finish Masters and they may be a chain.
I'm just saying....anyone looking for some POR15 may not need to look any closer than their local Parts Store or Paint Store.

$36 $36.04 per quart, shipped, was the only factor in my decision to go with Amazon Prime for the POR-15. Where it shipped from was an easy driving distance from me, but I would have paid $48/quart + tax & gas money.

But, I hear you on checking local Alvin.
