What info are you looking for specifically. GM Metric donor vehicles are the 1978-1987 GM A/G bodies and the 1982-2004 S/T bodies.

Will your crossmember fit an 3/4 ton? Does the donor parts mount to your crossmemer? I would like to use rack and pinion. Maybe some pictures of a completed install. Any info on adapting the existing steering column if possible.
Thanks

yes, it fits a 3/4 ton

here is the link again for photos

http://s1343.photobucket.com/user/scott_danforth/library/Crossmember%20Customers?sort=3&page=1

my kit is set up for a rack and pinion.

to use the stock column, remove the stock gear box, use a 3/4" ag bearing from tractor supply (same od as the id of the steering column tube. grind a double d end on the shaft for a steering u-joint.

I was looking at a manual rack and pinion. Will this work? Any recommendations. Can I get a price for your crossmember?

you can use a manual rack. My recommendation is sweet or appleton, however you are free to use anything you want.

my kit is $500 plus shipping.

Just to add a little info. Prior to I think 1998 the S/T trucks used a regular spindle and cone bearing, 2002 used a hub assembly. So all the A/G will be regular spindles and cone bearings as will 82-97 S and T trucks

correct. the hub assembly also interchanges with the Camaro and corvette. and the 1998 and later S-10 blazers come with dual piston calipers.

This is important only when getting brakes and buying lowering spindles. as the GM metric components are interchangeable, just like parts on Mr Potato head.

the 1993-1997 Camaro or Firebird. in 1998, they changed the angle of the pinion and it hits the frame. simply cut off 4-1/8" off the inner tie rod ends and rethread.

however if you desire, a ford exploder or dodge durango/dakota rack and pinion can be used as well.

The 87 Tbird rack I used goes stop to stop on stock S10 spindles. I haven't driven it yet but i'm expecting a turn radius about the same as a long bed S10

the best turn radius will be a Sweet or Appleton Rack, or aftermarket spindles (Coleman Racing) with shortened bolt-on steering arms.

I was going to use a s10 box but it would take more work that it was worth. I used a 98 Mark VIII rack with a 6" throw. It goes stop to stop and turns nicely
A-1 CARDONE 22215 (22-215) $165. you may have to trim a little off the tierods

What was the main problem with using the S-10 box?

The cost of the rack does not concern me......but needing a pump and lines.....and then dealing with the volume differences does.

the pump is a GM with a pressure reducer kit and some lines from borgeson

Mike,

Since the frame is between the width of an S-10 and a G-body, you would have to create your own geometry, make jigs to mount everything, and fabricate your own mounts and center link.

I spent a long time trying to make it work. Not saying you cant, however the amount of work needed to get the steering so the ackerman geometry is right, it doesn’t bind, or introduce bump steer was infinitely more difficult than simply going rack.

Scott.

Yes, we've actually had spammers register and then PM every member with their crap. Very few of them seem to have the patience to post four times. grin

Bringing this back up...

I am working on a 1952 3100 1/2 ton Chevy pickup. The truck is almost all stock currently. The plan is to install a SBC, T5, and most likely a 2nd Gen Camaro rear axle.

I am in the investigation mode to IFS set-ups. Not planning on any subframe splices or anything. At this point trying to decide what Mustang II IFS set-up suits my needs (quality, functionality, cost, etc.).

I am not looking for Wilwood brakes, polished components, as I am after the improved driveability aspects.

Bolt-in parts would be nice, to make at least one part easier, but I could use your thoughts and opinions!!

Thank you,
Rich
