How or can I tell if a gen. is 6V or 12V? Also, can I replace the large groove pulley on my 6V gen. with a small groove pulley? Not sure if the gen. I have with the small pulley is 6V or 12V. I am swapping the 216 for a 235 and the 235 had a 12V coil and I assume a 12V gen. Thanks!

I have decided to go with the 12V gen. since the coil, points, etc. are already 12V. I will change to a 12V regulator and use ballast resistor on the fuel gauge and heater motor. After changing all the light bulbs, I should be good to go. Any thoughts or suggestions will be appreciated!

Pulley's are interchangeable.
Delco tags are red for 12V and black for 6V

12V external resistor coil could run just fine on a 6V system with no resistor, so don't use coil voltage to find voltage output of the generator.

You might want to use a Runtz style resistor on the input side of the fuel gauge.

This resistor/reducer should work fine with 6v motors and other 6v accessories/options.

Thanks for the suggestions. Does using the 12V gen. and coil provide that much of a "hotter" spark? The current spark appears to be weak.
