1954 GMC

I’m in the process of removing my grill to have it painted black. At work we powder coat things so I’m thinking of having it powder coated at work. But then after thinking about it more, not sure this is my best option.

Painting the grill black is a short-term solution to the trucks color scheme. In a few years I plan on repainting the entire truck. I thinking with the grill powder coated, when I have it repainted in a few years, the powder coat may be difficult to strip off.

Does the Aircraft stripper dissolve the powder coat too?

Would appreciate any feedback from the group.

Thanks
Bennie

You work at a powder coating place where you
probably can get a good discount. Go for it.
A few years sounds like a long time off and I'm
sure the guys at work can tell you how to get the stuff off when the time comes. I had my
running boards, inner fenders, and a load of things powder coated. I really like it.
The only thing you have to be careful of is the
clearence on some parts. The coating can make
it tough at times to make parts fit. Cecil...

Dou you have to clear coat over the top? I had some stuff (running boards, frame) done, and have heard that I should spray clear over it.

Since I waited, what do you suggest if I do in fact need to clear it?

The guy that powder coated mine told me to just
use the same wax that you use on the rest of the
car. No need to clear coat it. If you get a
scratch just use a matching paint to touch it up.
