Just wondering who has or who makes the best aftermarket replacement grille? My dad backed his tractor right into the grille of my '49 It's an aftermarket grille too, but just wondering if one of the currently available grilles is better than the others.

I purchased an aftermarket AD grille, but before I had it painted I found an original one for the same money. I returned the first one and went with the real one. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 155 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 155 | I suspect all the aftermarket grills are from the same supplier in China. I have purchased two grills for two different AD trucks over the past 15 years, both from Classic Parts. Initial appearance and fit were virtually identical to original. I would add one caveat however, one truck sat outside and after about five-six years I noticed the chrome bars had began to dull and streak in areas and could not be polished back. The 2nd truck was garaged and still looks like new. http://i1291.photobucket.com/albums/b542/RdLessTaken/IMG_85261_zps90bf2b98.jpg | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | I purchased my new 52 grille about 4 years ago from this place... http://www.classicautoparts.com/chevy/aboutus.html...it goes by Classic Chevrolet Parts but the address is different. A LOT of vendors these days have "classic" in the name. Personally the above Classic Chevrolet Parts is in Oklahoma and I believe it is "another" spin off of American Classic? Anyway, I paid 149 including shipping to my door. They run a special on them fairly regular. Mine has held up good in spite of what looks like "dust" in the crevices. My panel stays inside but I do drive it, even on long trips and it does see foul weather. All in all I am pleased with it. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2008 Posts: 3,750 | To be honest I've been hesitant to buy an after market chrome grill because the standards of plating seems to be so poor. If it's anything like the rear aftermarket tail-lights i've fitted the future doesn't bode well.
Especially if the truck in question is a daily driver.
My lights are little more than rusty lumps attached to my truck and that's only after roughly two years despite regular cleaning and polishing....
In saying that, trying to find an unmolested original is akin to finding the holy grail! 1950 Chevy Advance Design 3100 in ScotlandIn the Stovebolt GalleryMore pix on Flickr.
