old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2003 Posts: 213 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2003 Posts: 213 | I'm thinking about starting the suspension and driveline on my 53. I'm only THINKING about it for two reasons. One, it's February in Minnesota, and propane is not cheap. Two, I'm a CPA, so I get about two waking hours at home each day.
What I'd like to know is what are you guys using to refinish these important areas of your truck? Paint, POR, Zerorust, something else? What are you using and why?
I want something that will hold up as long as reasonably possible, who really wants to do all this work over again?
Thanks for your suggestions! | | | | | Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 36 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 36 | I use Chassis Saver. Some claim it's better than POR. I found it works great and use it not only on the chassis, but the inside of any sheetmetal that is not painted or undercoated. Chassis Saver

It looks good, but if I were to do it over again I would powder coat the entire frame. Mine is mostly for local shows and doesn't get to many miles. The rear axle isn't a candidate for powder coating, so I'm looking at the options.
Speaking of the frame, the guy I bought it from ground off the rivets on some connections, like one of the rear spring mounts. Can I just bolt them back on, and if so, do I need a hardened grade or anything special?

I ground out some rivets and am planning on using grade 8 bolts to replace. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 586 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2003 Posts: 586 | I agree, grade 8 bolts. Cecil.... | | |
