on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 44 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2014 Posts: 44 | I have a '59 1/2 ton stepside with a 235 Thriftmaster, 3 spd on the column. Pattern is left up (Reverse), left down (1st), right up (2nd), right down (3rd). Yesterday it was shifting fine....today it wouldn't go into 1st gear....it would go into reverse and then 1st, just not into 1st from 2nd or 3rd. Any ideas? The clutch is fairly new.

Look to see if your linkage is lined up at the steering column. If no, make the needed adjustments. If it is correctly aligned then the bushings are worn out and need replaced. Good luck.

I've set up a video camera before to do this.

There is a spring and rubber bushing inside the shifter itself. Common problem with these trucks, some wear on any of these components and they don't shift correctly. Fred
