I have a '59 1/2 ton stepside with a 235 Thriftmaster, 3 spd on the column. Pattern is left up (Reverse), left down (1st), right up (2nd), right down (3rd). Yesterday it was shifting fine....today it wouldn't go into 1st gear....it would go into reverse and then 1st, just not into 1st from 2nd or 3rd. Any ideas? The clutch is fairly new.

Thanks!

Try adjusting your shift arms. Reach down and manually move both arms to the neutral position. Look to see if your linkage is lined up at the steering column. If no, make the needed adjustments. If it is correctly aligned then the bushings are worn out and need replaced. Good luck.

I'd crawl under the truck & examine the shifting linkages from the transmission forward. Have a known & trusted associate run through the shifting pattern while you watch.

I've set up a video camera before to do this.

In addition to the aforementioned suggestions, check the shifter lever on the upper column. There is a spring and rubber bushing inside the shifter itself. Common problem with these trucks, some wear on any of these components and they don't shift correctly.

I've seen where you couldn't shift from 1st to second without shifting up past neutral then to 2nd. It was worn bushings.
