I am having a hard time finding a carrier bearing for my truck. i have read on here that HB88107B will work but that has an ID of 1.378. my driveshaft has an OD of 1.487.... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a post from years ago. Bearing Information I believe the suppliers like Jim Carter carry this part.

I replaced the entire assembly on my 1954 3600 and the 88107A was the correct bearing with a 1.378 ID. The bearing land on the shaft is only sightly larger than the splines. The 1929-1954 Chevrolet Master parts and accessories manual lists GM 954257 bearing also shown as X88107. I replaced the cushion, shields, slinger and retainers. If I had to do it over again, I'd bought the kit from "Chev's of the 40's" and made a spacer to get the right distance. Well let's just discuss it here so we can all get a handle on it Dusty.
First off, maybe I'm not awake yet, but are we talking about
the Center Support Bearing? Not a carrier bearing, which
would put the discussion in the rear axle.

Not clear Fred from your previous thread, as to which bearing number you were talking
about. Was it the 52-55 Ford rear wheel bearing that was the same bearing as the
X88107? If so, wouldn’t trying to find an early 50’s Ford part be just about as hard to find as
the same year AD Chevy parts using the factory part numbers?
But᠁..if it’s just a X88107 bearing that we're looking for,
well that’s no problem.

The pn. 954257 (X-88107) superseded by the later pn.904571 (X-88107 TIC4) bearing,
which was superseded by pn.9411403 in Sep., 1979 which was specified in the conversion
listing as SKF 9G 88107B. So᠁it appears to be the same for all of the trucks with a center
support that we’re talking about here, 1941 thru at least the late 70’s. And᠁..it was listed
as being used on some trucks going back as far as 1929.

Point is᠁..That bearing seems to be all over the place. Damned if I know why I re-greased
my original one and kept it when I rebuilt my driveline.
At the time I did both of mine, the 50 & 54, I’m pretty sure the donut cushion, was stocked
by most of the vendors. A bearing and a cushion, that’s all the consumables there are in
the center support of these trucks.

Sorry for the confusion. I am talking about the bearing in the middle of the driveshaft. I have one ordered from Jim Carter ME399, but im not sure its going to be the right size. Its also on back order, and they dont know when they will have it in stock...

that information was copied directly from the cover of the bearing box. I am going to guess that one could find that bearing from a classic Ford supplier. I still have the box somewhere but it would take some digging to find it.

How did you regrease a sealed unit?

Denny,you're wide awake and it sounds like Bradw1876 is talking about the propshaft center support bearing. The 88107 part number is available as you've shown at most local auto parts stores, NAPA, Autozone, etc.

I chose to use NOS parts. I read in the shop manual that replacing the cushion (3657524) was not dictated but I fail to see how you could reuse one.Mine was destroyed when the bearing seized so it wasn't even a consideration. They are very hard to find these days.

I also trashed the shield (3705198) getting it off, so I replaced it.

When I got to the cushion /bearing the shims were worn down to almost nothing and I ended up replacing both shims (2019793) and both retainers (3685957).

By the way, Denny, your photo album was extremely helpful when I did this repair, thanks for taking the time to make it available.

It took some time to locate all of the repair parts but its back to original, for what's its worth. I hope that Bradw1876 has less to replace on his repair.

Note, after I got about half way through this adventure it was suggested by another Bolter that I go get a modern "carrier" bearing and make a "riser" to get the right distance from the frame. That's what Chev's of the 40's has in its kit along with a shield. In hindsight, that may have been the easiest approach....but not original. Perhaps I'm both Crazy and Dusty.
