| | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 48 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 48 | on the driver side door panel is the numers 3KPI-13709. the max weight is 4800 lbs. the truck has two leaf springs on each side on the rear. oh yea the thruck is a 1952 chevy 5 window. here are my questions. what is the VIN numbers telling me? is the leaf springs the same on all 1952 1/2 ton chevy trucks? and is it a 1/2 ton truck? what does the 4800 lbs. mean? i was told from the buyer it is a 1952 chevy 5 window 1/2 ton PU. any help would be appreated. the next thing is the engine orginal and how do i tell? where are the casting numbers and vin numbers located on the engine? thanks to all.

The first digit from your VIN # identifies the assembly plant. In your case that would be the Kansas City, MO Plant.
The second digit identifies the year (K = 1952)
The third digit identifies the Series. (P = 3100) which is a half ton.
The fourth digit identifies the month it was made (I = September)
The last 6 digits represent the production number off the assembly line. 13709 -1001 = 12708
I believe the 4800 is the gross vehicle weight.
Your engine I.D. numbers are located on the flat tab area of the motor by the distributor. Scrape away the grease and you'll find the number stamped on this flat area. Your numbers should be something like KBA 1292 or something like that.

They don't seem to be available through the vintage parts suppliers (not a huge demand, I'm sure).
