I would use the tailgate and front panel from a 46 to keep the width the same. its a cost thing. I can get new bedsides for 47-52 local, but 46 would be an additional 400 dollars just for shipping. anybody out there ever come across this? The front panel was from a later truck and too wide but I cut it down to fit and looks just fine to me. There are some on here who just buy 16 gauge sheet steel and have the upper bend made at the steel shop. Matter of fact I just bought a 4x8 sheet for $60, cheap! They then weld on a pipe on top and buy all the uprights to weld on as well. They claim it is much cheaper. Of course the trade off is time and you need a welder. I was able to find one who had the correct mandrels to roll the top edge. We removed the stake pockets and took original into shop. I'm working on my 41 3/4 ton and needed a bed. I wanted to put an 8' bed on it so I can put a slide in camper on it.
I happened to have a 1966 Jeep pick up in my bone-yard, that has the Thriftside 8' bed on it. I started looking at it closely and taking measurements and I think it will work. The style is the same as our 41-46 trucks.
Measurements are a bit different. Our inside bed is 48 1/2" and the Jeep is 50". Height is the same, 14". I will need to work on the bed mounts, but I think I can make it work. I was able to find a pair of rear fenders.
Also, you can get the repos of the stake pockets; which I will need. Good luck!
