Nothing changes. Sometimes none, sometimes intermittant, sometimes constant.Could the speedi sleeve on the balancer be spinning? (doesn't look like it) Any bearings or bushings maybe? Sounds like a screech. Gets worse when revving. Very rythmic with engine rpm or constant. Only happens when engine is hot.
Any more ideas?

Run the engine just long enough to see if the squeal goes away. You can get away with revving it up a short while to see if the squealing goes away without over-heating the engine.

This can happen when the motor settles down and the rubber pushes up on the tin cover.Mtneermike

I went through the same things you have, tighten the belt etc.

No noise then it is for sure the the belt, water pump, or generator. If noise is there with belt off then something with the dampner, timing cover, seal, is amiss. Try next size wider belt to see if pulleys are worn as belt must contact sides of groove, not the bottom. I wouldn't run a too wide belt but fine for testing.

| | | | | Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 163 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 163 | Lots of good ideas. The water pump is fairly new but still worth a try. I had the motor mount cover problem before and had to remake it smaller but I will recheck. Taking the belt off to check makes sense too.
