To all the followers of the BillyBob project, I've just posted another log entry dealing with the windshield frame metal repair. Here's the link:

Windshield Epic - Almost Good

Some of you have e-mailed me and I haven't responded yet. I'm sorry. It's one of my character flaws not to answer e-mail in a very prompt manner sometimes. At least one old friend e-mailed me and died before I got back to her. They are still all in my inbox and I promise to get to them.

Great update, Larry. If yer not careful, you'll have me buyin a welder reeel quick.

Billy-Bob seems to be comin along very nicely. It's a vast improvement over the mess you started with around the windshield. Ya done good.

I'm waitin for the sun to move a bit so I can finish tightening up the spring clamps on my 64 Ratt Truk's rear springs. (It's hot out in the deseret sun. [That's a pun, for those familiar with Utah culture...and that's a pun, too.]) It's been a 2-day ordeal for something that should have taken a couple of hours at most. I've had to fabricate just about every part, cuz the clamps seem to be built for rice-mobile springs that are better suited for ball-point pens than trucks.

If I can get the clamps finished up in a reasonable time, I'll turn the truck around and start removing the manifolds in preparation for the installation of some go-fast parts. (I spose that could be considered an oxymoron....go-fast on a 292 C10.)

Anyway, I really enjoyed the writeup and I look forward to the next installment. Keep up the good work.

Found out when I posted the announcement to the various forums and lists yesterday that the Yahoolians had kicked me off the old-chevy-truck list because "emails to me were bouncing" This message arrived via email so it's got me scratchin' my head mumbling WTF? What's really got me miffed is all the good info I've been missing from that list. I'll just have to re-register in the next few days or so.

Thanks for the update, it's an inspiration to see someone documenting their progress. I have been following your resto for awhile, good work. I have a 66 fleetside I am trying to restore.

Had not read that section about your family friend, gave me goosebumps reading the account.

Now a question, why do you use the JB weld prior to the metal to metal filler?

I use the JB Weld as a little insurance just in case I didn't get all the pin holes in the metal welded. It adds strength that the filler doesn't and where filler is not waterproof, JB Weld has been used to patch radiators and engine blocks with some success. I'm hoping it will take up any slack in my novice welding and give me the dry cab I'm hoping for.
