I'm in Germany and thinking about putting a V-8 into my 55 series II. The stovebolt is running fine but I've found a complete 283 with a 4 speed transmission out of a 59 pickup. I'm OK on the engine side of things but the tranny has me stumped. In the pictures sent to me, it's not a top loader, like my 55. It has a side cover with shifter levers like the Borg-Warner T-10 in my old corvette. Did 59 pick ups with four speeds have a column shifter? The guy who has it is out of town til mid December so he can't help me.

GM used a T89 Borg Warner as a heavy duty option. A 4 speed will have 3, a 1-2, a 3-4, and a separate lever for reverse.
