have a 52 chevy 1ton truck. my question is truck starts right up then shuts off. i am getting gas to carb. can anyone help thanks

After it shuts off, check to see if there is any fueling the Carb. Look own the throat and work the accelerator linkage. You should see a stream of fuel shoot down into the manifold. If nothing squirts, then there is no fuel in the bowl.

If this is the case, the problem is:
-something with the float and needle and seat in the carb,
- something with the fuel pump,
-something in the tank that gets sucked into the fuel line in the tank and cuts off the fuel flow.
--To check this, disconnect the fuel line at the inlet side, if nothing runs out it may be clogged. If you shoot a little air into the line and it blows the clog away for a short time,
you need to clean out the tank. Loosen the gas cap before you do this. It may even be that the gas cap does not vent.

--If you have a glass bowl on your fuel pump, look for gas there.

thanks mike i will try your suggestions. jeez gas cap isn't the best no fuel bowl on line and my tank and lines r new. i will check the carb though

I'm going out on a limb here but....you didn't state how long the motor ran. If it starts then when you return the key switch from start to run it dies the problem could be electrical. If converted to 12 volts then there may be a broken wire, bad ballast resistor in the run circuit.
