Hi, I'm sure this has been addressed somewhere --- there are chrome parts on the hood of my '41 Chevy 1/2-ton, painted black. The paint is starting to flake off, revealing the chrome underneath. How can I safely remove the black over-paint and let the chrome shine?

I would try some lacquer thinner. You may have to allow it to soften up the paint a little before rubbing it off with a cotton rag. Don't get any thinner on paint you don't want to remove.

Plan "b" would be to use paint stripper.

2" wide masking tape applied right next to the chrome strip and a little Easy-Off oven cleaner brushed onto the painted chrome. Soak awhile and hose off. Be sure the cleaner doesn't get onto painted surfaces you don't want to strip!
