So my old DS door latch was not functioning very well, opened on occasion (not good) and would not open from the inside. So I bought one of these off eBay knowing the reproduction latches are not great. LS NOS are not easy to source so for $60 I could not resist.

So after install with a new reproduction latch plate it would not shut tight? Not having a NOS Left but having a right a quick comparison showed 1/4" difference on the area where the latch slides over and then behind. So I welded a 1/4" extension and it works great. So if you are having a latch issue on the reproductions that is the issue I found. And that NOS latch, in a word fantastic!
