Has anybody had experience with some of the economy line acrylic urethane paints currently available? PPG's Omni line is one, Matrix paint systems is another. My truck a 50 is used as a truck, but it also lives in the garage when not being driven. The thought of spending the money on the Dupont's of the world when I know it will get dings and scratches is hard to justify. It currently has 15 year old PPG Deltron acrylic urethane on it and I'm getting ready to freshen it up for a repaint. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, John

The Omni line has good primer and good clear coat.... I haven't used or heard anything about the paint itself, but it should be good. Stay away from single stage, use base/clear. It looks so much nicer- that goes for any paint, just not the cheaper stuff.

I have used PPG Omni epoxy primer - so far so good.

"To each his/her own" regarding single stage vs two stage (base - clear). I recently used PPG CONCEPT (DCC) single stage urethane finish coat on my 1954 Suburban and is seems to be durable and buffed to a high gloss (buff it after a day but do not wait too long because it gets quite hard). On this restoration, I wanted a durable paint that did not look like base/clear.

I do not know how the PPG DELTRON single stage acrylic urethane compares in cost and quality to PPG CONCEPT (DCC) single stage acrylic urethane.

I have to disagree with rt on this. I've had cars done in both single stage and two stage. I prefer the single stage myself. Even though its single stage, the paint is heavier. I like it for touch ups. If you get a scratch I find it easier to match up and I think the shine is equal to, if not better than a two stage. I don't think there is a right answer, it's just a matter of preference. If you talk to your paint shop, they will give you the +'s and -'s of each. Cecil.......

The Omni line is reaonable price-wise, comes in single and base/clear flavors. Get the tech sheets and check recoat specs. Seems to me too little time or too long and it will craze when recoated. Depending on how you feel about the truck and the color you want, House of Kolor has a single stage line as well. All of their products are blendable with each other, and the price is equal to o just a lil higher than Omni. Durability, touch-up, klear coats, all very user friendly. I sang this song on other posts. Don't let the name or reputation fool you into thinking it's expensive. You'll be pleasently surprised at the entire experiance.

I would never use their products again. I had a problem using metal prep. on my frame and to make a long story short (will forward emails to anyone that wants them) I used the product as the label stated and when I rinsed with water it would re-rust before I could get the frame dry. After a couple of e-mails the FACTORY referred me to the local Dist. body shop or tech school. I guess they spend too much money on Jeff Gordon's car the be able to train their tech people.
