In mean time, my first question is for the vacuum two speed rearend, the selector is a On the dash for the 2 speed. any way to move this to shifter like more modern 2 speed setups?

Lots of good information and great people on this forum. Hopefully someone will chime in on the selector switch. All three of my big bolts are single speed rear ends, so I won't be a big help there...

Nice truck, what are your plans? The 55 and up trucks with 2-speed rears had the vacuum switch mounted on the drivers side of the transmission with a push/pull control cable going up the gear shift lever. Hoses leaking might the reason for intermittent operation.
'37 GMC T-18 w/ DD 4-53T, RTO-610, 6231 aux., '95 GMC running gear, full disc brakes, power steering, 22.5 wheels and tires.
'47 GMC 1 ton w/ 302, NP-540, 4wd, full width Blazer front axle.
'54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed.
'55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.
