I've got a 47 AD. The hood won't close all the way, although it will latch. When closed, it looks like it's sitting up about 1 1/2 inches up AND out from the mounts, but it looks fine from underneath. Any tips? Thanks,

try it without the springs on, if it sits right replace the weak springs!

I have the same problem. When the springs are off it does sit right...guess I need new springs...

Could you explain this to me please? I will want to know about this when I get there. Are you talking about the main hood springs and if so, how do they affect the position?

yes, the springs on the hood hinges - actually it could be the hinges themselves, but the springs are easier to swap - if the hinge pivots are worn [they all are by 50 years later] the springs will pull things into the wrong position when the hoods closed, but also can be a result of weak or unbalanced springs - my 58 was like that when I got it and got better w/ a different set of used springs, then worse later after the paint was done and the hood had been off and on twice, I think cuz I oiled the hinges well new hinges and springs fixed it immediately

There is a specific alignment procedure for AD hoods. I have sent it to you via email. This was found on another site.

Gord, let us know how it goes--I have to tackle the same job on my 54. (There's too much gap along one side. Also the fender on that side looks to be set a little too low.)

I've got the same problem on my 53' i just changed both of my fenders and know there is a gap on the right edge. before i changed them it was perfect.
