I've searched and read multiple threads but never really found an answer. I have a 54 235 with narrow pulleys on the water pump and alternator. The crack pulley belt groove is wider, so the V-belt rides on the shaft and squeels like a pig. I've been looking and cannot find a 235 crank pully/harmonic damper with narrow belt for less than a house payment. Am I overlooking something easy? I only need one belt groove.

A 1953 and later truck (and, maybe, car) pulley would work.

I think the diameter of some pulleys are different (some car 235s) but that might not be a big deal. Pre '68 Dave would know.

A 1953-54 car or truck balancers would be best, but an acceptable substitution is to use a 1955-62 truck balancer.
The 1955-62 truck balancer is designed for a ½” belt but may be used with a â…œ" belt. This will allow the belt to run deeper in the groove and in effect will reduce the diameter to very near the correct size.
The 1955-62 passenger balancer is also designed for a ⅜" belt, but because of the larger diameter there is a increased risk of the fan breaking from the high speed flexing.

Thanks guys! I'm looking at the DamperDudes site and they have two listed, one with crank starter and one without. I do not know what they mean. I have the foot-stomp starter on my truck.

Chad M,

My guess is that the "crank starter" means there are fittings on the front of the balancer for a hand crank (that would be on a pre-54 balancer, I think).

Chad,

May have what you need. Sent a PM.

Mine are large diameter, 3/8 belt.

Paul
