on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 46 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 46 | Just finished installing my crank in my 1956 235 and prior to the pan install I realized the mains did not have any lock washers. I have looked at several engine schematics some of which show lock washers. So prior to last pan install I thought I would seek advice Should a 1956 235 have main cap lock washers? | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,767 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,767 | NO!
Definitely not the split-type spring steel washers. They spread out under load, and can seriously affect torque values. Some main bearing bolts/studs use hardened steel flat washers between the cap and the bolt head or nut, but a properly-torqued bolt of any sort does not need any help from a lockwasher. Jerry
