hello,although im not doing it right know(actually pretty far off from getting the truck painted)i was wondering how you put flames on the truck,i know most on this site perfer stock,but if you know anything about it please help me,wanna know for a 54.thanks

Pat & Larry Kytola wrote the book: How to Paint Flames. It's out of print, but I've seen it around in some catalogs. John Kosmoski's House of Kolor has a video where they flame out a Camero. The really good guys just take narrow masking tape and lay out the flames freehand. Fill in the rest with tape and masking paper. The skill/talent is in the lay out, color transition, and pin striping.

House of Kolor has a "Bag o' Flames" template kit that is supposed to make it fairly easy to paint flames. Generally speaking, House of Kolor makes the "best of the best" custom paint stuff.

Has anyone ever heard of Paint With Pearl? They sell the same stuff as the big companies, but a totally differnt method. Instead of buying the paints, you buy the pigments and pearls to mix with clear coat. It has really proved to be a benefit to me.

Mask, spray the base color, blend in the fades, finish off with a pinstripe. Clear coat if desired.

Plan on a full day and be careful to mask to prevent overspray around tight corners.

a good fade only requires 2 colors and careful transition from light color to darker.

Your design is the most important part of good flames. Crappy design won't make up for nice paint work.

Consider getting assistance from an old hand at this stuff and learn some of the tricks... or hire it out. What you'd spend on the "KIT" stuff you could get a real pro to assist you.

Regarding the Pearl nothing new about adding a dry product to your paint or clear.... just spend your money on good product.... save you some headaches.
