Removed the pressure plate and clutch and not realize the clutch face differs on each side.

Which is the front, and which is the back?

Also, is there a front and back of the trans pilot bearing in the flywheel?

Usually the disc will not go on properly if the wrong way, springs hit flywheel;

If pilot brg. looks the same, either way, if a radius on the inside, that should go out for ease in installing clutch shaft.

I'm not sure what model you're working on, but there are a number of old Chevrolet service manuals here.

A typical clutch for use with a 216 (1947 in this case) is shown here. Guessing that you might be working on a mid-30's (from your handle), these might be of greater interest: 1938 and 1934.

Hope one of these links is helpful.

Good luck and have fun.

Bill

Great help here thanks. It s a 35, so the34 picture helped. Can the pilot bearing be reinstated without the special tool shown in the old chevy manuals?

Do you have a pilot bushing or a bearing?

I would think you would want something that applies the force to the outer race as that is where the interference fit will occur.

I would use either a small section of pipe that has slightly less OD than the bearing, or a socket as a "driver" tool.
