I bought one, sanded, primed and painted it and when I go to install it, the rear bumper brackets get in the way, they seems too be up to high and hit the valence. Any solutions? I was told it was a "bolt in part". Thanks, Brad.

We need yr and style of truck. I assume fleet side, but frame width and brackets and bumper hole location matter. | | | | | Joined: May 2014 Posts: 75 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2014 Posts: 75 | Sorry, its a 51 3600 pick up | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | What rear bumper brackets are you using, and from/for what size truck?
Also, what "aftermarket rear gravel guard/splash guard/ valance" are you referring to (link to vendor/part would be helpful). | | | | | Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 863 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jul 2013 Posts: 863 | Cadee,
Installed an aftermarket rear splash panel on my '49 3100 Chevrolet. Had to remove the rear bumper and adjust the bumper brackets down about 3/8 inch. Install the splash panel with the bumper brackets slightly loose. After you get the splash panel installed ( be careful with the sides of the splash panel so they don't scratch your fenders.) I put a couple of coats of masking tape on them to prevent the scratching. Tighten up the bumper brackets and install the rear bumper. Patience and several attempts at getting the adjustment correct is the key to it fitting correct.
Hope this helps.
Tim

The brackets came with the truck as did the bumper, they were not installed, I installed them and the brackets lined up with the holes in the frame and the other ends lined up with the holes in the bumper. I bought the rear splash panel from a company here in Canada called Cross Canada, they use Goodmark products, and their part number is GMK414080847. According to the Goodmark site, it fits all 1st series trucks. That's why I am wondering if I should get some brackets for a 1/2 ton, redrill any holes in it so it would fit the frame. I'm starting to think that there is a difference in the "shape of the bracket arms" where they attach to the bumper between the 1/2 ton and 3/4 and 1 ton brackets. I understand how the rear splash guard attaches to the bumper and I did expect some fiddling around when it came to bolting this part on, but the way it is now, the shape and height of the bracket arms make it impossible to install the splash guard. I hope I am explaining this in a way that is understood to those viewing this post. I wish I knew how to post pictures so I could add them and that may make my problem easier for everyone to see. Thanks, Brad.
