The story is that it was supposed to be 375hp and 500 plus torque, to start with I don't know if these numbers are realistic, just what I was told by PO. It now has the factory intake and fuel system, i plan to put carb on it with new manifold. I was told it came from orange co. Engines in ca. Do you think they keep good records so I could contact them for a build sheet? What recommendation do you have for an intake manifold and carb combo. Also electric fuel pump. The po also said it has an upgraded cam. All of these claims are questionable unless I can get a build sheet. What are your thoughts? By the way, I will be using a th400 trans. Dave

On most small blocks I would expect more like 400 and that's a maybe. Without knowing the stroke and cam specs anything is strictly speculation so as you said; the build/dyno sheet should clear the air.

Those numbers seem a bit on the high side to me, not saying its not possible but most crate engines are more conservative than that. | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,501 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,501 | It was not as advertised, only found this after I had it home. The block casting is 87-95. NOT 1998. It has 906 vortec heads and a roller cam. It has an alternator, water pump, power steering pump on serpentine belt, can they be used as is on my 47.1 project? I plan to use new intake and carb. Any recommendations?
There is a crankshaft position indicator on the timing cover, can I just leave it or plug the hole, or replace the timing cover with a solid one? Dave

It makes everything be in line (w/factory brackets) and gives the right belt tension. If you should go to V belts remember the water pump will be turning backwards. We make our own brackets for the LS engines to suck all the accessories inward/upward and raise the p/s pump to clear the steering box on many older GM cars. Takes a lot of time and several spacer spools to align everything so keep the factory brackets when possible.
