The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Stalling

Yesterday after a car show, setting in the hot sun all day, was headed home, drove about 3 miles and the truck quit. Would no start, everything looked OK, had fuel and spark, but would not start. Let sit for about 20 min. then tried to start still no go, when remove the gas cap and the tank was under pressure, so I left the cap loose and let sit about 10 more min. put cap back on the it started right up drove it the rest of the way home with no more stalling. I thought the gas cap was a venting cap, new cap the box it came in said it was a vented cap. What is it suppose to be? 53 3100 235 root

Hi Root, "had fuel and spark" has to be a wrong statement. I think you were not getting fuel, possibly vapor locked. A vented cap only means air can get into the tank however pressure can build up in tank under the cap. It should have a vented cap. mtneermike

Did you mean that the tank was under vacuum??? Certainly sounds
like a classic un-vented tank problem.

Denny and Mike, no it was like the tank was pressurized. If I suck on the hole on the inside of the cap, I get air, if I blow it seals off. The tank is behind the seat. I am thinking that the tank was pressurized and causing the carb to flood. root
