I need to haul both sand and flagstone rock in my truck but not too sure as to how much weight these old rigs can safely haul?

Up to 1000 pounds? or until the rubber load bumper attached to the rear frame rails are within a couple inches of the rear axle housing? or.......

What size tires do you have on the rear?

You might need to make a few trips

One slight issue I have, is on a few occasions I have loaded the bed
With Sod , or Yard waist, Landscape Blocks .
With the bed loaded I have a very slight rubbing

I had an issue with the bed rubbing, but that might be my wheel tire combo

1950 3104 - 1,500 payload

1953 GM specification manual
more readable in the 1952 GM specification manual

I think I'd drive slowly and carefully with that weight; although, I have carried over 1,500 lbs human-weight in my Suburban.

I have the same size tires on my 51. Mine are LT's and I've had 1200 lbs on with no problem. I wonder if yours are passenger tires and underinflated for their max load, causing the sidewall to bulge. Also, unless you scaled those loads, theres no way to know how much was on there. The payload is your GVW minus the empty weight of the truck. My 3104 weighs about 3700 with me, the spare and a few tools. I think GM weighed a truck with a 3 speed, no fluids, spare, jack or any flies on it to come up with 1500 lbs. My 2 cents worth, I love my truck and Chevy in general. After having Fords for years, when I bought my first Chevy a glowing light came from above and I'd been saved! John

When I picked up the flooring, the receipt said 2200 lbs, plus me, my wife and little kid, but we are all skinny, so maybe another 300 pounds
It didn't really seem to bother it too much. When I drove it from san diego to montana, I had it weighed at a weigh station, 5100 lbs with an empty gas tank and the wife wasn't in it. The fella said "darn, your loaded"

Curious question: where did your screen name come from...?

I found this website in my first attempts at finding a head for my truck that wasn't broken. The reason I put so much in it is because I had gotten the flooring home before I noticed the weight on the receipt. And the 5100 GVW was just a matter of necessity, I was moving all my belongings, and I just put stuff in, until it was full. Didn't have a lot of choice, I wasn't coming back.
