I have a 1954 2.5 truck with what I believe is a 302 6 cylinder complete and standard trans with title. It is complete but has been parked for 20 years and I need this forums advice regarding sell it whole or part it out. It has the 2 speed dually rear end and except for surface rust the metal is pretty solid over all. I do not know how to post a pic here. But I do have them. Let me know your thoughts, thank [email protected]

Unless you are into larger trucks like I am, there is not much incentive in restoring larger trucks. I have been in the trucking business for 51 years and I own a dozen larger 50's GMC. The cab, motor and radiator are about the only thing that will fit a pickup. If it is indeed a 302 and the cab is in good shape, the parts are worth as much as the whole truck. However having a vehicle with a title makes it a lot more valuable to someone who wants to restore one.

Engine SN stamped on cast block, right side, rear, near starter, starts w/ engine displacement, I. E. 302xxxx, 270xxxx. Probably has a Clark 5 speed, if tin is good, get it running and sell to someone who likes large trucks, would be a shame to part out if tin is good.

I also have a '54, first series, that has a 503. 650 MN.

In my experience you'll get about the same money either way. One way you get all your money at one time. The other way it trickles in a little at a time AFTER you spend lots of free labor stripping the parts off and then you are left with the un-wanted parts to deal with.

Way easier to sell it as a complete truck and move on...

If its the one on eBay, it looks like a 1951-1953 400 series with a 302. It would be a very ambitious project to restore.

If you part it,I could use the electric 2 speed axle.

Can you email pictures. Look on the back of the glove box lid for the "GMC PARTS Identification" tag. It will tell what series it is along with eng. type, trans. type, rear axle type etc. Could also be a 3 ton. or 3 1/2 ton. Depends on the series. 400 series 2.5 ton, 450 series 3 ton, and 470 series 3 1/2 ton. If it is indeed a 54 model, and is a 300 series 2.5 ton, it won't have a 302 in it. It will have a 270 engine. 1954 450, & 470 series trucks had the 302.
