Was the 3 speed transmission in the cars different in length than the 3 speed transmissions in the pickups? I am seeking to install a 53 Powerglide into 51 3100 pickup. I am finding that the length between the 51 3 speed with bell housing is a 1/2" shorter that the Powerglide with mounting flange. Perhaps the 3 speed transmissions in the 51s were different then the transmission in the 53s and 54s. Or perhaps the bell housing in the cars is a 1/2 longer than the bell housing in the trucks.
Insight on this would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance Walt L. Williams La Verkin, UT
