216 was running perfectly, then all of a sudden it quit. Restarted, but needed chock to stay running...well, idling fast. Throttle is not smooth, but rather touchy/jumpy. Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting. My thoughts:

1. Fuel pump.
2. Trash in carb idle circuit.

I don't think carb is flooding as chock is required to keep it running. Still starts easily, so probably not ignition.

Trash in the idle circuit is a possibility, however:

Carburetors go bad over years, even decades.

Ignition systems go bad in the blick of an eye, especially the electronic ones.

Jon.

Good carburetion is fuelish hot air
The most expensive carburetor is the wrong one you attempt to modify.

Try revving the engine up and clap your hand or a big rag over the air horn, several times if necessary, to see if you can flush the crud out of the internal passages. Sometimes that draws a big slug of liquid gasoline through passages that normally only see vapors or gas/air emulsion. Can't do any damage, and sometimes a small chunk of trash will get flushed away.

Yep. That's why they let him stay around here.
In addition to this kind of incite, there is also his mild mannered temperament, always polite discourse, and his caring and comforting demeanor.
Let me know if I left anything out. smile

You left nothing out, Carl.

You were almost poetic, in using incite instead of insight to describe Jerry's style of posting assistance.

Your double entendre was almost poetic.

I just couldn't leave this alone. Such BIG words, some of us are very well educated.
Jerry, I think they are trying to 'roast' you in absentia.
But to what Mr. Lane stated...+1.
