I want to paint my 1949 3600 the forest green that I remember as a kid (sooo many years ago)on my dads truck. I need help in getting the right color. Is there a number or some reference that my local paint retailer can be given that will key him the the proper color? Thanks for the help!! Regards, Steve

Of course there is. If you want DuPont, the number for forester green is 93-62006. Or PPG, it is 40519. Forester green is extemely dark, almost black. I assume that is the color you are looking for.

dierk, different years had different greens. Make sure you want the '49 green which is different from the more common '53 green.

Thanks for the input. I hope I'm asking for the right color. I don't recall the green being so dark that it's almost black. Is there a color reference available that I can physically look at?

46forme,

- PPG code for Permanent red is: 70030.

- Sherwin Williams is: 8393 (with additional prefix depending on paint type, i.e: ju-8393 ).

the paint counter at your parts shop probably has a book of chips that may go back that far. Go in and talk to the paint guy.

Whizzerick,
Glad you had the number for permanent red, because I don't. Are you positive your truck is forester green? Because it looks much lighter than the forester green paint I have. I noticed yours is a 53, that year forester green was not used, juniper green was.
For the original poster - seacrest green was also available in 49 as an optional color. I will try to email you a scan of the color chips I have for that year.

Brian, gee I dunno... when I painted the visor I mixed a quart of Juniper Green (that was the green for 53 - USA) and it was WAAAY to blue? I mixed a batch of forester green and while it's not 100% on the money, it is veeeeeeery close... The truck is a Canadian 1300 and it was originally 'Commercial blue' (Canadian color). It looks much darker from certain angles. Darn, I'm just adding confusion to this thread!

I resently repaired my brothers 4x after it stoped a drunk from driving more than 30 feet. Just enough to bend the bumper supports and fender and grill and splash thing behind the bumper. He got a good run at it. I went to the local paint supply shop with a sample of the paint on the 4x. They had a surface computer color scan thing that matched it so close I didn't need to blend anything. you need a sample about the size of a soup can lid. The green on my AD is in perfect shape on the firewall just above the rust holes. LOL smile

Thanks for all the input!

My memories of my dad's truck was a much darker green than what I'm seeing forester and brewster being. Brian emailed me a paint chip chart which indicates that there was a fathom green available. My monitor displays the chip as black, I'm suspecting that it is the dark green that I remember. Does anyone have any knowledge of this green or maybe a truck painted the color?

Steve
