Were gas tank filler tubes painted on the old Chevy pick-ups - specifically the Art Deco pick-ups? If so, were they black or body color?

My son's 1946 2 ton filler neck painted Brewster Green the same as the truck body.

The first answer was free.

What do you got to give? grin

My son has the truck out on the North Fork right now so I can not measure and say exactly how far down the paint goes on the filler neck.

Though it definitely goes past the filler neck grommet so no bare metal is seen on the outside of the cab. Though the paint did not go all the way to the tank if I remember right.

The truck may be coming home today.

Looks like the filler necks were painted ahead of time at the factory to match the cab, eh?

The next question then is: was the filler neck seal retaining ring also painted to match the cab, or was it painted black on the '42-46 models that had that type of seal?

1946 2 ton tank filler neck was painted 3" into the cab.

The ring that holds grommet on the filler neck painted the same as the body.
