I checked out Julianos and talked to a rep on the phone. He said a 74" is the correct length for a stock 53. I want to get comments before ordering their OEM push button model. Thanks, Steve

Did the OEM have push button or a lift flap?

OEM? in 1953? none

My Mom's add-on belts in 1964 had the lift-flap (airline style, I think they called it)?

push button. But no, there is no OEM seat belts for AD's. If you drive the truck, there is OMG or WTF but no OEM.

Thats how they advertise it. Kinda funny now that I think about it.

I Personally would LOVE to see the Lift up or Air line style still used Today.
Have seen the push button NOT Release More than I care to count.
2 Different Crashes and 2 fatalities cause they couldn't get to the Vic in time,and get belt off.
Ever listen to the cries of a Vic about to cook.
PULL on the latch from a distance with a hook or whatever.
Back in 74 my new chevy pickup was hit in the rt side in the B pillar and back into the R R wheel well.
Truck spun clockwise up over a curb and into a oak tree 3ft around.
I ended up on the benchseat with my back against the rt door and both legs on the bench.
Truck had lap belts only from GM, and the Doc who examined me said quote "Had You been wearing a belt, a Broken thigh or a Dislocated Hip at Minimum".
I despise the seatbelts in my stuff even at work and only Begrudgingly put it on to avoid getting written up.

Only good thing about the push button style Prior to the mid 70,s was the square hole is a Perfect Bottle Opener!

I am okay with seat belts. As a young kid I saw a Pontiac get T-boned and the seat came out the door with the driver still sitting in it. I am okay with helmets as I use one for cycling and have a custom built brain bucket for flying. It has the R/T communications head set and mike built in. The plane I fly mostly these days has a "glass" canopy and a couple of good bumps your head is banging against the window frames.

I put the GM push button lap belts in my 41. I realize it is not OEM, but they have the character of an old Chevy. I am a firm believer in safety belts, even if only lap belts as they can save you from being ejected in the event of a rollover.

I put them in my 52 5 years ago mostly because the grandkids ride with me.Never had a problem with them,in IL. if you're car or truck did not have them from the factory you don't have to use them.I bought the same ones you're looking at.Next week my Son in law and I are going to put them in his 41 plymouth.

Check out seatbeltplanet.com. They make their own and easy to deal with.
Had them modify a set from another manufacturer, good price fast serv.

I like your suggestion about a latch system as opposed to the push button model. That is probably why they are used on air lines. Steve

are you installing shoulder or lap?

Hi Gus, they will be the lap style. What do you have and where did you buy them? I found five on line that sound good. Classic of America is supposed to be a distributor for BEAMS Co., but the catalog does not give any information. Today is Sat. and all these places are closed. Steve

I used the lap belts from classic parts, bought them about 6 years ago. I don't recall the length. Metal buckle

They work well, only problem is that the metal buckle gets hot if the sun hits it.. Just have to tuck it under when not in use.

I remember using the latch seat belts but it has been such a long time I don't remember if the latch had to be lifted to connect the other belt to it.

How did you anchor the door side stationary point? I don't see any pictures of it in you article.

All the anchor points should be stationary, but I'm not Deve. I used 7/16"-20 hardened bolts through the floor. Big washers underneath.

Ok, Deve wrote up (* I think ) the article on Juliano's website for the AD truck seat belt installation. This may be what you're referring to above, but the "devetechnet" linked in his signature probably has something on it.

I used a piece of metal banding to get the backing plate in the door pillar of my 55.2 truck, but I'm still not sure which location you are asking about.

I see the article now, it's pretty thorough. I didn't use a tape measure at all, but you may need to in your truck. I see a few obstacles in the article (truck) that I didn't have to deal with.

The door side stationary point is the back of the seat pedestal. I used angle iron that was included in the kit that had an anchor bolt already included. I just welded it to the backside so the mechanism can sit on the floor just in the corner. It ended up working really well.

Okay, I see the retractor and the stationary point share the same mounting point.

Sure. Since everything is bolted through not just the sheet metal but 1/4" of steel spread out over a wider span, you probably won't die from a seat belt coming loose. There are new car installations that are not as secure. When Julianos asked me if they could use my install, I said yes like everything else. It has been fun!
