is it possible to convert a 12v neg ground electrical operated 56 starter to a footstart starter by changing just the solenoid?

It is not possible to convert a solenoid starter to foot start, but a 1955-59 truck 12 volt starter is already set up for foot start. I am assuming you already have a 12 volt starter?

yes my starter has a black tag, truck is 12v though so not sure whats happening there. i read that a lot of people run 6v starters at 12v without issues
hmm what should i look for to ID the flyweel?

If your not sure which flywheel you have you can count the teeth on it.

i counted 4 teeth/inch so im assuming its a 6v flywheel the starter i have (that came with it) is according to the number on the id plate a 6v from a 49-51 chevy car or COE (number 1107075) so i guess a stock 6v starter 1107055 is what i need to convert to foot start.
