Need advice/instructions on the removal of the upper steering column bearing on a 53' 3100. Steering column is fully exposed during a frame-off. Thanks!

Some can be removed easily but In many cases you won't be able
to save the mast jacket bearing. If it's out of the truck it
simply a matte of prying it out of the mast jacket, as I said
you may end up destroying it in the process.
New ones are stocked by all of the vendors.

Thank you! I have ordered and received the new bearing/horn wire but was not sure about the removal of the old one. Since I'm pretty good at destroying some of the parts to be replaced, this should not be too difficult. Thanks again, for your time and response.

Just an add on, the original tool for removing the mast jacket
busing had a tapered thread that was forced into the cup then
a slide hammer was used to remove it.

A lot of them will simply just pry out and I've seen some that
you could have lifted out with out any tools.

I rebuilt my steering box at the same time as I replaced mine. I had the shaft off the box and poked it out from the backside. Even if you are not doing the box it is pretty easy to pull the shaft off since the truck is stripped down.

Thanks for the help, comments and suggestions! It took a little convincing, but the old bearing came out, the shaft was cleaned and the new bearing tapped in. Made a big difference in the amount of "play" that was in the old bearing. You guys amaze me with your expertise and knowledge.
