Is it always Fathers Day? So many things I can do on that day, Car Show in Mission, Car Free Day in Vancouver (have a booth there) and Ride to Conquer Cancer ( did it once and want to do it again one day). However, is it a great swap meet? Have to find some good deals to pay for the ferry! I figure ferrys should be free since it's part of the highway. smile

I think this is the first time it was on Father's Day. Not a bad meet but not as good as Abbotsford. I am not finding much but I have difficulty picking through boxes of stuff. A lot of non-automotive flea market stuff which seems to be happening more and more. With the ferry fares it would make an expensive trip. Your $20 find would actually cost you $170 with the fare.

I was referring to the Abbotsford show when talking about costs in case I confused anybody. This year saanich was on Father's Day and there was some rumbling about the date being changed. lots of junk and household items at saanich and some very pricey but ordinary cars in the car corral.

Yeah, what is with the south Island these last several years? Lack in base interest? No hobby time? Maybe too many tv shows showing how you too can "make big $$" on well-used stuff?

And then there's over-priced car stock where so many guys hired out their work so they have something pretty to show off.

I remember not that long ago when the swap meet had all sorts of nifty car & truck stuff, and it was more of a share event (read: swap meet) than a gouge event. There was even a guy in an old pickup who sold Echlin electrics out of the back, and at reasonable prices. I heard he's no longer with us and someone else bought his stuff up and moved it to a more profitable venue (read: USA).

Nah, I won't go to those meets anymore -- not worth the time. Now local garage sales ..much better luck :-)

You sound like me. Some of the bought rod asking prices in this neck of the woods are really off the wall. It was an eye opener for me when I went to the Portland swap meet and saw beautifully restored vehicles (and hot rods) at half the price they are asking here.
I'll probably still go to Saanich because its more of a social thing for me.
