I bought handles that are splined and find I need em square......guessing that the door latches I have are not 1940. But........one of the square posts for the inside handle is missing. Note sure if its broken off or missing all together. Is there any way to make something? Does anyone have 2 square connection door handles for my 1940- need not be perfect! Also notice the handles are loose, and sometimes can open on their own. Is there a gasket or piece that should be mounted with these handles that keeps them taunt? Thanks, George in Tallahassee

Since perfection is not required I'd either build them up with the mig or even JB weld, if they need to grow or file them down from where they are.

I will deal with the square holes on a round peg somehow, but I am still MISSING COMPLETELY the sq post on one of the latches. It looks like it waw swedged onto the latch. Is this part available to buy or even make? instead of buying a new latch?

The driver's latch has a square post for the small inside handle. None for the passenger. Not sure if that is what you are referring to as the 'square post'.

Now I understand that I am missing the sq post mechanism- and I guess the rod that operates the latch. So you say this is only present on the drivers side- how do you get out of the pass side?
Would anyone have this part on the forum? Used hopefully. I also need two of the outside door handle springs that keep them from flopping. Is this spring something that that could be made with a normal spring and some plyers? George

Hey George, Yeah kinda odd about the door locking. You can have some interesting trivia reading by searching this site on it. The springs are available from the vendors. You might want to place an add in the parts wanted forum.
