I am restoreing a 50 Chevrolet pickup and am trying too figure out the seat rail and cable set up.
The drivers side has the release handle which springs into a detent slot to hold seat into position.
The passenger side has the detent slots on rail but no other parts.
Am I missing some parts ?
Does anybody have any good picks of passenger side frame ?
Chevrolet books I have are very limited in their info.

A couple of pictures of what you've got might help us figure
out what you don't got.

I have all that cable and pulleys intact. The release handle is there and working and the 2 cable clamps.
Is there nothing on passenger side track too lock the seat to the adjustment rail detent like there is on drivers side?

You may be missing the locking rod. This is from a

Denny I thought that a 50 did not use that rod from side to side. I do not have it.

What the heck does the cable and pulleys do if theres a rod going from side to side tòo release seat for adjustment?

The cables keep the seat frame moving evenly when you put
pressure on one side.
Been ten years since I had mine out of the truck, but if I
remember correctly, my '50 was missing the rod also. But my
'54 did have one.
If you've ever worked on one of the old drafting tables, a lot
of them had a straight edge on a cable. It's the same idea as
the seat cable. But the adjusters need to lock in to a detent
on a truck seat.

I used to own a 51 and it definitely had the cross rod from left to right.
I guess I'll go to a local vender who has a few of these trucks and look at the seat mechanism.

My '51 has the rod (no pulley system), my '50 COE does not have a rod(with pulley system). I think on the '50 the only detent is on the driver's side at the adjuster lever.
Jim Carter lists "seat adjusting rod anti-rattler grommet, CB153" only for the years 51-55, implying there was no rod before 1951.

There were a few significant seat changes over the life of the AD's, 1947-1949 was a cable seat but in 1950 (some late 49's) the width was increased by 2-1/2". Then in 1951 the new seat tracks with the rod were introduced. The tracks themselves were much improved as they had a better ball bearing system and were designed so spilled drinks did not gum them up. This style continued from 1951 through the 1955 1st Series.

So just to clarify this....does this sound correct for a blanket statement?
47-50 Simply had the parallel cable setup and a locking
adjuster on the drivers side.
51-55 Did not have cables, but a locking rod with both
driver and passenger adjuster having locking detents.

That has been my understanding since I restored my '50 COE and researched and compared to my '51 as I went along.
Thus, I think 7998's truck may not be missing parts at all,

Yes I guess I was a little surprised to learn that the pulley and cable system is fine with the parts I do have. It's just that when you look at this system you start too wonder whats missing especially being 65 years old. : )
