Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2015 Posts: 2 Moderated | | Moderated Joined: May 2015 Posts: 2 | Hi Folks, Hope someone can give a little guidance. I have a 1950 3800. I'd want to replace the split rim wheels, cause I hear they are dangerous, and because few people want to work on them, and because replacement tires are very costy. But I'm concerned theat by using an after market wheel my new shinny hub caps will not fit. any suggestions?

The thing you have to be careful about is the backset of the wheel, finding wheels that will clear your tie rods can be tricky, I built an early 50s one ton pickup years ago, the owner found some F@#d wheels which fit and cleared the tie rods, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,960 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,960 | 8 hole 16" trailer wheels are patterned after Ford 16" and they will both fit. Ford hubs are a little larger than GM, but that doesn't make any difference because they pilot on the studs anyway. Years ago it was a common way to get rid of the tube required wheels. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 19 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 19 | I just put the dexstar trailer wheels (part # AM20766 on etrailers site ) on my 54 3600 along with the 11 5/8 baby moon hubcaps from hubcap mike ( part # IMP-M12 ) this compo clears the tie rod ends just fine on the stock drive train and not sure how but those baby moons clear the the rear axle ends and pop right on the dexstar rims. Best part is the center is large enough for the stock Chev caps to fit and look like a factory set up. Had to add the repro spring clips which was an easy deal.
