I have a post in the wanted to buy forum and some guy is trying to sell me some hub caps and I think he is trying to get my money and run but wanted to make sure. His name is John Avelar on the email. Is he a member of this forum?

Ask him what his Stovebolt Username is.

Post (cut-and-paste) his reply here, or email/PM it to a Moderator.

when you list your email address in your parts wanted post anyone can view it.

suggest you not list your email in the post and ask to be contacted PM.,
or add your email address to your profile page

that way only members who are logged on can view it.

any lurker can view your request and contact you.

Excellent suggestions, DADS50

Also, I suggest being careful buying-from or selling to a person with very few posts. I have been burned twice (in 14 years) by sell-and-disappear sellers.

John Avelar is not a member of the forum (and we are still checking since we have some information on / about him). He has recently stirred up a bit of questionable doings -- that have happened on occasion here and on other sites we know of. Besides trying to sniff him out, we hope to start a tip on how to avoid being ripped off over the internet. I was waiting for John to come home from ATHS Convention for him to take the lead on this.

I would suggest you NOT buy anything from him, until we can get more information ourselves.

Peggy

Also, Tim is correct: do not put your email address, phone number or address in a Swap Meet post. People who use the forum know how to contact members via PM. In your profile, you may also want to delete your email address and get all your messages via PM. Then PLEASE remember to clean out your PM box every now and then. (We get a lot of email from folks who "can't get thru" to someone because their PM box is full.)
