just picked up a 60-61 Apache hood emblem (Chevy Bowtie) which has some serious fading of the red paint along with small tiny dings from years of rocks and debris.

I want to restore the red paint inside the emblem before putting it on my '61 Apache but am not quite sure how to do this. Should i sand the old paint and dings out and repaint? What kind of paint should I use?

Thanks in advance..

molegar76,

I think One Shot sign painters' lettering enamel 100-L Vermillion is a close match for the red. It is available in quarter-pint cans at an auto paint store. You can apply it with a small brush and it will flow to a smooth finish when dry.

Awesome. This would be after I sand the old paint and chrome off our paint over it all?

Yes. Just scuff the area to make it smooth, but give the paint something to adhere to....you can either mask off the edges or use a razor blade to clean up the lines.
