My 1956 speedometer reads 25mph when I'm going much faster than that, is this a take it apart and clean it issue or it's broke find a new unit issue?

Also got a loud squeel from under the dash the last time I had it out. The squeel didn't last long enough to ID where the sound came from...maybe the speedometer???

I don't have any history with the gauge cluster, we found it at a swap meet, took it apart and set the OD back to zero (looked clean inside) and we thought it was ok to install in our project truck...guess it wasn't, lol.

Thoughts???

Mine made that squeal when I disturbed the cable during my rewiring. I attached it to my wiring to clean up the fire wall. It must have been tight or on a bad angle. I let it hang free and the squeal got better but was still there. I removed it, sprayed it down with brake cleaner, put bearing grease in it and made sure it was loose when it went back in.

IMHO it might be a good idea to remove your cluster and clean\oil it. Stopping at 25 doesn't sound healthy.
