With the warmer weather I'm reving up to do some welding on my cab. I have a replacement firewall from another truck, but it looks like I will need new floor panels too. As I am dropping the cab onto a frame with a new small block V8 and 350 TH tranny I was wondering if anyone make replacements that would eliminate the transmission cover/plate in original AD trucks. I am going to a steering column shifter as well, so a smooth floor would be nice, though transmission clearance may be an issue.

What's your experience with this sort of job? I welcome any and all comments.

If I had it to do over I would go with Bitchin Products, They make a smooth firewall and front and rear floor pan kit, or find an Arizona Cab to start with, taint much of the original cab left on this Mid-Atlantic cab. Zeke

I went with the Bitchin firewall and front floor and I am very happy with the results , it really looks clean . Cutting out the old stuff was the worst part of the whole job ,everything else fit up nicely.

Thanks for your input guys. I've seen a brochure on Bitchin' Products (love that name!) and will chekc out the Chevy Duty option.

Any other hints in making this job easier or more precise?

Floor modifications will obvisously depend on how your engine/trans is being mounted in the frame. If you are subframing it you might find you have to raise the engine up to provide fuel pump clearance as I did. If you are using the stock axle or a MII set up you might not have to change a thing unless you move the motor mounting back for better weight transfer. My modifications to the floor are slight to provide transmission clearance. I fabricated a custom hump from some extra 18ga laying around. Total height at the front is about 2" and it tapers down flush at the rear before the seat. I plan to have a custom console coming down from the bottom of the dash to the floor so this slight elevation will not even be seen.

If you cut out th eold firewall you might be able to use the recessed area of that one to start your own trans tunnel.

Thanks for your responses.

Anyone have any experience with products offered by Direct Sheetmetal (El Cajon, CA)? They have nice looking kits and reasonable prices, but I have never interacted with them.
